I was pumped to see the producers of YOLO TV Series release a new Ghanaian TV Series titled "Stryke".

What intrigued me about yolo was the way they communicated the sexual life of the African teenager, the point where he transitions from puberty into adulthood, having to deal with peer pressure, crushing on multiple or a single girl and the likes.

Over time my favourite character became Aaron Adatsi, not for his cool looks but the very fact that he was relatable.

What you would find in yolo is simply a replica of the life we had as teenagers, a life we obviously can’t relive, but it’s nice to draw memories from watching a series that mostly helps us reminisce those moments in our teenage experience.

Unfortunately yolo came to a halt and some of her characters such as Aaron Adatsi popularly known as Cyril was featured in the new ghanian series.

Ivan Quashigah is both the and the producer of director of Stryke TV Series, he draws similarity to YOLO TV Series by saying it would be just as good.

Knowing that this series featured some of my favorite actors from YOLO, I can’t wait to begin to follow up on that. I mean YOLO perfectly mirrors that funny teenage experience while teaching sexual education and morality. So yes it was educative and a good resource for teaching sexual health, relationships, and culture.

It’s funny how I draw laughter from watching YOLO when I remember how I would talk about wanting to ask a girl out and shy away from every opportunity I get, or is it when I told my best friend in school I liked a girl he started dating after I told him and I cried, or is it how i would want to ask a girl out and my mouth goes bitter out of fear yet having guys who would confidently speak to ladies, go for dates, party and I get to hear the gist on a Monday morning.

So in many ways YOLO was a good reminder of what being a teenager felt like, it was beautiful and full of drama.

Now we would having many of YOLO’s cast in STRYKE.

I hope it’s more of the same idea behind YOLO. Real, educative and relatable is what I expect it to be.

Will give you another gist when I see the episode one and then we’d see how it goes from there.

Till then. Love you.

Ife.
